THS Alumni

Welcome to Tallwood's Bravo! site where we highlight some of the awards, accomplishments, and "extra-mile" activities that go on here!

THS Key Club wants to thank Tallwood for their continued support of the THS Blood Drive. We had 167 students who tried to donate that says a lot about our student body! The Red Cross collected 87 units of blood. GREAT JOB LIONS!!

District II chorus auditions were held on November 7th and Tallwood had 23 students qualify which is more than any other High School in Virginia Beach (excluding VPAA) and third in the whole district (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Eastern Shore)!!  Go Lions!!! Congratulations to Madilyn S.
for auditioning for the District II Senior Regional Orchestra.   Madilyn is one of only 4 freshman violinists in the district that won a chair in the Symphony Orchestra. She will be performing with them Nov. 13 &14.

CONGRATULATIONS! to Tallwood's Future’s Grant Recipients. The following teachers were awarded grants for 2009: Linda Anderson, Karen Jones, Bob Anderson, Anne Graefin-Adelmann, Lydia James, and Joann Andrews. We look forward to the wonderful projects and activities these grants will produce.

Showing how it's done: Tallwood Drama Students received the Judges Honorable Mention award at the Virginia Theater Association State One-Act Competition.  Great job, Lindsey R., student director. There will be an “encore” performance of this show in January.

Each month, WHRO produces a 30-minute magazine program for educators called School Talk Monthly.  This national award-winning program features video clips and Internet sites for teachers to use, which are correlated to Virginia Standards of Learning.  One-on-one interviews with outstanding educators and students, on-location segments highlighting exciting school projects and activities and upcoming professional development events are also featured.  Each month four local schools (elementary, middle, high, and independent) are recognized as Schools of the Month.  We are happy to inform you that Tallwood High School has been selected as the High School of the Month for our October 2009 program.

We hope that you will enjoy watching your school’s segment on the program, which airs the first and third Sundays from 2:00-2:30 p.m. October–May on WHRO-TV. You can also view School Talk online via video streaming at our website, www.schooltalk.org.  In addition, the information is posted on our site each month with links to the schools’ websites.  We encourage you to also post this information on your school’s site and school billboard/marquee, if applicable.

Schools are selected based on academic achievement or for community service activities.  WHRO staff reviews school websites each month to determine the selections.
