Eligibility
The Tallwood High School Global Studies and World Languages Academy opened in the fall of 2005 with 85 ninth graders. Students are selected through an application process, which is open to any current eighth and ninth graders with a strong interest in global studies and world languages. The Academy will acceptl one hundred freshmen at the start of each school year.

Transportation
Transportation to the Tallwood High School Global Studies and World Languages Academy will be provided by the school division for all students. Students will be notified of their designated express pick-up point.

Selection Process
A selection committee of school administrators, teachers, and counselors will review the applications of all candidates. Students will be selected using the following criteria:

- Academic achievement including grades and Standard of Learning test scores;
- Interest in world languages;
- Essay showing strong interest in global studies and appreciation for diverse world cultures;
- Teacher and counselor recommendations;
- Parent recommendations; and
- Good attendance.

Information regarding the Academies and dates of informational meetings can be accessed on the VBSchools website.
Applications for the Global Studies and World Languages Academy are currently available at all Virginia Beach middle schools in the guidance department. Students may also obtain an application directly from the VBSchools web site(see link below).

Applications are due to your middle school guidance counselor or Ms. Rebecca Gurley, Coordinator of Global Studies and World Languages Academy.
